Claudine s Daughter is the second in a trilogy, following up on Warwyck s Woman Those who have read the first book can pretty much guess how Lucy s return is going to impact the Warwyck family, especially Daniel s son Richard who is instantly smitten with the beautiful Lucy di Castelloni view spoiler at the end of book 1, it is revealed that Lucy s mother was carrying Daniel s child and not her husband s child hide spoiler

May be part of a series, but is a stand alone bookA book that was written by an author I have never read before that has various twists and turns is always a win win escape to a different time and place as well as a good book.

I enjoyed reading Warwyck s Wife by the same author and so I was looking forward to reading its sequel Claudine s Daughter but unfortunately I didn t find this book as good as the first one I thought it was a little too melodramatic for a start though it is well written and the author does bring the scenes and characters to life and I did get a real sense of the way the things were changing at a great rate in the Victorian world.Lucy has been brought up in Italy and has married an ageing Italian who subsequently dies His son is suspicious of and antagonistic towards Lucy and expels her from his house after a violent encounter with her Lucy travels to Easthampton in search of her estranged family and causes suspicion and dismay in the small community because of her uncanny resemblance to her mother Can Lucy find her family or will she again be rejected when she only wants to belong I found myself skimming some of this book and felt at times there was just too much happening If you like historical novels set in the Victorian period you will probably enjoy this but I found it quite boring and long drawn out at times I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley for review.

The Warwyck story continues, with Warwyck learning that Claudine, the woman he really loves, has had a daughter.
