I Had a Hippopotamus , By Hector Viveros LeeThis book tells the story of a little boy who has pets ranging from a hippopotamus to a pangolin, jaguar, crocodile, anaconda and even an elephant All of which he gives to his family members, neighbour and school teacher He eventually ends up with a naughty little kitten who he decides to keep I though this book was a good read, the illustrations are very colourful and attractive to the eye A book I see being read independently by children, but could be used by teacher for whole class reading It definitely stimulates children imaginations and keeps them on an edge to find out what other pet he might give away and to whom This book is ideal for KS1 readers Additionally it can be utilised to instigate conversations of were these animals are from e.g habitats, country of orgin etc

In this book , elementary school teacher Hector Viveros Lee celebrates the joy of sharing and power of the imagination as a young boy gives away an eclectic array of creatures The best of all is the surprise that s left when the box of crackers is empty An imaginative boy opens a box of animal crackers and gives his family members a hippopotamus, anaconda, rhinoceros, and other exotic animals I think I might use this book for developing the imagination Also, I would suggest this book for initiating some questions about different types of animals.

This is one children s book that I did not enjoy very much While reading it I couldn t connect with it and the ending didn t make sense to me or didn t connect with the beginning in my opinion But, that doesn t mean a student in my classroom won t enjoy it
